ADVICES and TIPS

SETTING OPTIONS

It is required to measure both width and height of the dedicated space.

The fixation bar should be included in the height measurement.

Please note that 2cm are always deduced from the height so the curtain is not in contact with the floor.

The curtain is set upon an ash wood bar of 3.5cm height and 2cm thick. For smaller surfaces, as sink with cupboard for example, a 2cm ash wood bar is used.

Several fixation solutions are available :

  • Within the doorframe

The curtain can be settled using pitons screwed directly within the walls with dowels from about 10cm of the door/window opening so the chains cannot be blocked = 2 pitons on the back, 1 piton on the front to maintain the curtain stable and straight.

  • Screwed directly within the frame

In that case, the ash wood bar is drilled before so you will just have to screw the curtain within the dedicated furniture/beam…

  • Fixed upon a facade

For that specific option, it will be necessary to communicate us the measurements between the pitons and the floor.

Cleaning and Storage

Cleaning

It is important to know that the wooden bead curtains will present a patina aspect over time (except for the coloured beads). As the curtain absorb the sun light, the natural colour of the wood will slowly change to a honey coloured aspect.

Our advice is to place the curtains in March and to remove it from early October (depending on the region). By the end of the summer , it is time to clean up the curtain with hot water and a soft cloth to get rid of dust and pollen accumulated. Should the curtain need a more intensive cleaning, you can use water and soap. In that case, you may want to rinse it with clear water and have it dry at fresh air before storing it.

As time goes by (about 4 years), your curtain will tarnish and change from its original aspect. At this point, your curtain will need to be nourished with a restorative agent for varnished wood that you can find in any specialized shop. Then simply apply the product with a cloth.

Should some beads turn white, it may also mean that your curtain need to be nourished. On the opposite, should the beads turn black, it means the curtain took too much wet. In that case, it is necessary to wash the curtain with water and soap before leaving it dry at fresh air. When dried, apply a restorative agent to nourish the wood.

Do not nourish the curtain with linseed oil or turpentine oil as it may tarnish the beads.

Storage

As most of the wood types, boxwood is not compatible with wet environment. Therefor you can place the curtain within a dry space for the winter (why not behind a door from your home?)

Never store your curtain within plastic bags, as they will moisturise.

Do not roll the curtain around the fixation bar, it is far more better to hang it instead.
